Matthew Wayne

The writings of Matthew Wayne.

I grew up in a suburb near Chicago called La Grange. It was really quite a nice place to be a kid. Coming from a large family, I had to find ways to sort of make my own private time. Reading was one way to do this. Television was always a shared activity in my house, but reading was quite personal. I found an escape in books unlike anything else I could do. I found I was attracted to fantasy and to the macabre.
Halloween was always my favorite holiday and I liked to decorate and set up a neighborhood haunted house on the front porch. One year I remember my house was so frightening that many children passed it by, too scared to even come take a look. It's amazing what some sheets, a black light and some cardboard cutouts can do.
I discovered I enjoyed writing at an early age. In high school, I was involved in theatre and directed stage props and lighting from the booth high above. We communicated with headphones with the arc lights and backstage and I found myself making up stories to entertain everyone during when not much else was going on. These were mostly comical and I try to infuse some humor in my writing whenever appropriate.
I find the realms of the unusual and bizarre to be particularly interesting. They allow me to let my imagination run wild. Sometimes, I even surprise myself by what appears on the paper beneath my pen. I hope the reader enjoys my writing as much as I enjoy creating it.

Paul had nearly joined his parents in death, but he survived his bout with meningitis. Being so close to the other side, however, piqued his curiosity. That would lead him to search for greater meaning in the occult, which in turn would open doors beyond his imagination.
