If you've gotten to this page I can only assume that it's because you want to learn what it is that makes me think I'm qualified to write a users guide on Magento and charge $30.00 dollars for it.
First, I have spent more than 35 years working in high tech industries involved in computers and networking. I have held technical support positions for most of that time. For the last 15 of those years my career has found me creating technical documents and training materials.
I became involved in the internet and built my first website in 1995. Two years ago I became involved with PHP based open source e-commerce solutions when a client asked me to help with a Zen Cart based store. I eventually began a project to evaluate all the open source PHP shopping carts I could find. The results can be found here. I first became aware of Magento, installing a test installation of version 1.0, as a part of this project. I began writing Grow with Magento first as a guide for a client running three stores with a single Magento installation, and decided to expand it to become a comprehensive and up-to-date users guide for everyone. I have so far spent more than 6 months working on it, and have kept it up to compatibility with the latest Magento release.
I believe that Magento is the best open source e-commerce solution available, and intend to make my users guide every bit as good, and keep it current with the latest Magento release.
